With the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 mega-event now well underway in Paris, France, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to big tournaments to watch. One exciting event for fighting game fans has to be the huge Tekken 8 tournament that is taking place this week.

The EWC 2026 Tekken 8 tournament runs from 4 to 7 August 2026, and boasts a huge $1 million prize pool. At the current exchange rate, that's roughly R16.5 million to fight for. The winner also gets a direct spot at the upcoming Tekken World Tour 2026 event, and there's a heap of Club Championship points on the line as well.

All 32 players start in the 1st Phase, divided into four groups of eight each. A GSL-style format is used, and all matches are Ft3. The top four players per group advance to the 2nd Phase. The format is the same as the 1st Phase, with two groups of eight players now that the field is down to 16.

In the 3rd Phase, aka the Playoffs, a single-elimination bracket is used, and all matches are Ft5.
