Call of duty: Black Ops

Call of Duty is one of those sagas that comes back year after year. Activision has several studios developing games for the franchise, taking turns so we always have something new.

This time it is Treyarch, which has brought us Call of Duty: Black Ops. These chapters of the saga are fan favourites and, this time, they’re taking us back to the Cold War.

Activision’s goal with Modern Warfare was to relaunch the saga, starting from scratch to overcome the fan fatigue it has suffered lately. The plan this time seems to be the same and we can expect much more classic playability.

The campaign, which promises to be a darker, more grown-up story than the most recent ones, will once again be present and be one of the great bastions of the game. Scenes all over the world set in a post-Vietnam War world, combining spycraft with classic CoD cinematography and action.

Any fan of the saga will know that the campaign isn’t the only thing that will come in this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In addition to the single-player story, we’ll also have multi-player, Warzone and Zombies.

An open Alpha version of the multi-player mode was made available for testing, showing us what we all expect from a classic Call of Duty. There won’t be any jetpacks or running up walls.

All the options to take out the enemy will be traditional: weapons, grenades and killstreaks. As it is a cold-war game, we have some hints about what these weapons will be.

The legendary M4s and AK-47s will be back as the kings of an immense gallery with as many personalisation options as in Modern Warfare. Even though they are separate studios, it seems they pick some things up from each other.

In terms of Warzone, this is the mode we know the least about. So far, it is still being updated, but there is no date set for it to transition to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Even so, those who love the CoD battle royale have nothing to worry about; the playability will hardly change at all. The differences will be in look, weapons and vehicles. Basically, an all-new map to discover everything again.

Generally, everything from Modern Warfare will still be there. The only downside is that Activision is still holding out on the details and we don’t know anything about it. We do know, however, that it will still be totally free to play.

All of this surely seems like quite a bit already, but we still have one more mode: Zombies.

Treyarch was the first to create this play mode of surviving waves of the undead, but it had lost something in recent games. The good thing is that, like this whole Call of Duty, it is also going back to basics.

A new story with new characters, but classic playability with advantages in the form of drinks, ray guns and the weapon-upgrade machine. It all seems to be back and, as always in this mode, we expect loads of surprises.

The new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be out on 11 November for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC. PS5 won’t be left behind; it will be available as soon as the console launches a few days later.

Are you ready for everything this new Call of Duty has to offer?
