Microsoft is fully aware of this and now, with the arrival of the Xbox Series X, they’ve wasted no time in launching Halo Infinite, which will be the flagship game for this new generation of consoles.
This new title from 343 Industries promises to delight faithful followers of this collection, while keeping classic players in mind who have been waiting years for Microsoft’s star franchise to return.
For now, we’ve only been able to enjoy 8 minutes of gameplay for this latest chapter. But that was enough to leave players wanting more, even though the graphics don’t seem to have got their finishing touches yet.
Nevertheless, the chance to return to the open worlds of Halo and Microsoft’s strong commitment to the game have been enough to unleash Master Chief madness once again.
The trend toward open worlds is more widespread every day among developers, although we haven’t had a Halo game like this since the third chapter.
But we will surely have a more extensive universe in which exploration seems to be of the utmost importance and where we can alternate between main and side missions.
New mechanics, like the grappling hook, alternate with classic playability and Halo style. Weapon pick-up, complete annihilation of whole species that are an alien threat... the old and new combine in what promises to be the game to return Halo to greatness.
Other new mechanics include multi-player mode, which is one of the most popular and will be totally free. Plus, it seems players will flock to this mode fuelled by their discontent with some of the other multi-player alternatives.
The visuals are the one and only big issue so far. As it is a generational leap, expectations were through the roof.
Going to a new console normally entails progressive changes and, although for now there are reasonable doubts, 343 Industries is working to polish the finished look before the game launches.
Even so, some of the sound and lighting is quite remarkable and gives us reason to keep believing. Especially in the music that will be in the game, which has always been spectacular and worthy of a Hollywood production.
Halo continues to promise non-stop action and this newest chapter seems like it will have it in buckets, showcasing its full potential. The developers themselves say it’s a game designed to last a decade, something we hope they achieve with frequent updates and by adding new content.
Hours and hours of frenetic fun await with vehicles, shooting, monsters, more shooting and a few grappling hooks that both loyal followers and newbies to the saga will make the very most of once they get their hands on it.
The new generation consoles are making a splash and the battle between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will kick off in the final quarter of 2020.
Halo seems like it will be one of the points in favour of Microsoft. The return of the Master Chief is no mean feat and could well be a reason to justify buying an Xbox Series X immediately.
